BioscienceLA Launches Leadership Catalyst Program For Emerging Leaders in the Life Sciences

Deloitte sponsors first cohort of Los Angeles-based talent pipeline

CULVER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Taking a people-first approach, BioscienceLA, the ecosystem accelerator for life sciences in Greater Los Angeles, has launched its inaugural Leadership Catalyst Program for trailblazers in biotechnology and related sectors.

In 2022, the National Institutes of Health, the largest public funder of biomedical research worldwide, awarded $1.7 billion – more than 30 percent of its total funding across California – to institutions and companies in Greater Los Angeles.

“With California receiving the largest allocation of NIH funding in the country, there is a critical need for the state to invest in developing local talent,” said BioscienceLA CEO David J. Whelan. “The mission of the Leadership Catalyst Program is to develop the business leaders of the future. We are excited to launch this innovative program and witness its impact on Los Angeles.”

Deloitte* is sponsoring the program’s first cohort, a diverse mix of entrepreneurs with a range of experience spanning biotech, medtech, digital health and related industries. Led by seasoned innovation entrepreneurs, the confidential peer advisory group meets monthly for executive coaching sessions that feature skilled facilitators, guest speakers and leadership development.

“The Los Angeles region has a vibrant life sciences ecosystem, and Deloitte is committed to supporting the next generation of industry leaders,” said Nicole Cordonnier, Audit & Assurance partner, Life Sciences and Health Care, Deloitte & Touche LLP. “We are delighted to be part of this impactful program.”

Reflecting the diversity of the life sciences sector, companies in the program focus on a wide range of products and services, from cancer therapeutics and patient-engagement solutions, to smart implantable sensors and the development of probiotics for metabolic health.
