Siegmund (“Sige”) Gutman is a nationally recognized patent litigator and counselor with nearly 30 years of experience, serving as Chair of Mintz’s Life Sciences Litigation Practice and Co-chair of its Life Sciences Practice. With a strong background in molecular biology and biophysical chemistry, he has led numerous high-profile cases involving biologic drug patents, the Hatch-Waxman Act, and biosimilars. Sige advises top life sciences companies on market exclusivity, freedom to operate, transactional due diligence, and strategic patent portfolio development. He frequently appears before trial and appellate courts, including the Federal Circuit, and recently led one of the few life sciences trials at the International Trade Commission. His technical expertise broadly spans biologic, cell, and small molecule therapeutics, including monoclonal antibodies, gene therapies, nucleic acids, and stem cells. Sige has in-house experience as a former senior patent litigation counsel at a major biotech firm.
