Leandro Boer, MD, PhD, is a biopharmaceutical executive with extensive U.S. and global leadership experience across Medical Affairs and Clinical Development. He currently serves as Vice President, U.S. Medical, Obesity and Related Conditions at Amgen, where he leads the U.S. medical organization responsible for advancing scientific strategy, evidence generation, external engagement, and launch readiness across obesity and related cardiometabolic conditions. A cardiologist by training with a PhD in Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Leandro began his career as a Medical Officer and Cardiologist in the Brazilian Air Force before transitioning to the biopharmaceutical industry. He has held senior leadership positions at Amgen, Novartis, and AstraZeneca, with responsibilities spanning the U.S., global organizations, and international regions including Latin America, Canada, Africa, and the Middle East.
Throughout his career, Leandro has led large, geographically distributed organizations and multidisciplinary teams across primary care and specialty medicine. His experience encompasses clinical development, medical affairs, evidence generation and real-world evidence, scientific publications and communications, regulatory strategy, and dissemination and implementation science. His clinical and scientific expertise spans obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and lipid disorders.
Leandro is a published author in cardiometabolic medicine and is particularly interested in how scientific innovation, emerging technologies, and new models of evidence generation and dissemination can accelerate the translation of biomedical advances into meaningful outcomes for patients.
